The way I photograph food
“Keep it simple. Let the food shine.”
I create natural, considered photography and film for bakeries, cafés, restaurants, food producers and independent food brands.
My approach is deliberately simple:
Natural light, Honest textures, Restrained styling and the Details that make food FEEL REAL.
I like images that feel as though you could step into them — a cake on a kitchen table, hands preparing something, sunlight falling across a freshly made product.
The aim isn't to make your food look overly polished or staged. It's to show it at its best while keeping the character, warmth and atmosphere that make your business yours.

A marketer behind the camera
Before becoming a photographer and filmmaker, I worked in marketing and communications for over a decade.
That experience still shapes the way I work. I think about where your images will be used, who they're speaking to and what they need to communicate — not just how they look.
Based in Horsham, I work with food businesses and independent brands across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London.
FAQ
-
Because the value of a shoot isn't simply the number of finished images.
Time is needed for planning, preparing food, styling, setting up lighting, shooting different compositions, reviewing what we've created and carefully editing the final selection. Charging by shoot time gives us the flexibility to create the content your business actually needs rather than rushing to reach a fixed image count.
-
Twenty strong, finished photographs can represent a lot of work.
A typical half-day might involve several dishes or products, different setups, styling changes, close-ups, wider lifestyle images and behind-the-scenes moments. I would rather give you a smaller collection of photographs that are genuinely useful and consistent than hundreds of variations that you don't need.
If your brief requires a larger number of straightforward images, we can plan the shoot differently.Description text goes here
-
Absolutely. In fact, combining photography and video can be a very efficient way to build a library of content in one shoot.
The important thing is that photography and video require different approaches, so we'll agree the balance beforehand. More time spent creating and editing video naturally means fewer still photographs from the same shoot.
I'll help you work out the combination that gives you the most useful content for your budget.

Short-form videos are generally up to around 30 seconds and are designed for use across Instagram, TikTok, websites and other digital channels.
They might capture a pour, preparation, decorating, cutting, serving or another simple moment that brings your food to life.
If you need something more involved, I can also create longer, more cinematic films. These require more planning, shooting and editing, so they are quoted separately and will usually mean a different balance of photography and video within the project.
-
Sometimes, yes — but it isn't something I rely on.
A frame from video can work for a quick social post, but it won't usually have the same resolution, sharpness, lighting or composition as a photograph created specifically for that purpose.
If you need strong hero images for a website, menu or campaign, I'll photograph them properly. Video can then capture the movement and atmosphere around them.
-
I don't start by applying the same look to every client.
Before the shoot, I'll look at your brand, existing imagery, audience and where the content will be used. We'll discuss the feeling you want to create — whether that's clean and minimal, warm and homely, bold and colourful, refined and premium, or something else.
My background in marketing and communications also means I think about the purpose behind the image, not just how it looks. The aim is to create photography that feels like your brand and gives you content you can actually use.
-
I'm originally from Hong Kong and have lived and worked in the UK, so my visual perspective has been shaped by both environments.
My photography tends to combine a clean, considered eye with the warmth and natural feel I associate with good British food and hospitality. More importantly, my background is in marketing and communications, so I naturally think about the audience, message and purpose behind the content.
The result isn't photography for photography's sake. I want the images to help your business communicate something.

Shoots can take place in my home kitchen studio in Horsham, or at your kitchen, café, bakery or another suitable location.
Travel within 20 miles of Horsham is included. I'm happy to travel further, with a travel charge for locations beyond 20 miles. I'll confirm this with you before booking.
-
Not necessarily.
My approach is intentionally natural and considered, so I don't believe every shoot needs a large styling production. Depending on your brief, I can work with your own products, ingredients, serving ware, surfaces and surroundings to create the right feel.
If your project needs specialist food styling, extensive prop sourcing or a more involved production, we can discuss this during planning and bring in the right people where necessary.
-
For a straightforward photography shoot, edited images are normally delivered within 5 working days.
Short-form video usually takes a little longer because each film needs to be edited separately. More involved or cinematic films will have a longer agreed turnaround depending on the scope of the project.
If you have a launch date or another deadline, tell me when you enquire and I'll let you know what is realistically possible.
-
That's completely fine.
You don't need to arrive with a finished shot list or know whether you need photography, video or both.
Tell me what you're making, where you want to use the content, what you're hoping to achieve and roughly what you'd like to spend. I'll help you work out a practical approach and suggest where your budget will have the most impact.
-
Yes. Your package includes usage for your business's agreed digital marketing channels, such as your website and social media.
If you need the content for advertising campaigns, packaging, large-scale print, third-party licensing or other commercial uses, let me know when we discuss the project so the appropriate usage can be agreed from the beginning.
-
No. I deliver professionally edited, high-resolution final files rather than unfinished RAW files.
The editing is part of the creative process and ensures the finished collection has a consistent look and is ready for you to use.

Send me an email or fill in the contact form with a little about your business, what you're making and what you need the content for.
You don't need a perfect brief. We'll start with a conversation and work out what makes sense from there.
